Father Francis Bauer, a Roman Catholic priest and theologian, has a deep and unshakable faith in God and the teachings of Christ, but when his research leads him to start questioning certain exclusionary and even selfish corporate policies forming part of the 21st century church paradigm that seem to go against everything he’s been taught, his faith will be tested like never before. When his published research, detailing how the Church has strayed from the original intent of Christianity, starts to receive traction in the media, growing ever more popular even among secular circles, he finds himself at odds with his Church, stripped of all but his most basic credentials as a priest by his superiors, and urged into exile after whispered warnings about his physical safety. Skeptical of the threat, but trusting his advocate, Bauer heeds the advice and goes on the run, narrowly avoiding a trained black-ops operative, hired by shady members deep within the Church, tasked with silencing him, one way or another. Unfortunately, keeping off of the hitmen’s radar will take a genuine miracle.

Demonstrates the "why" and the "how" of consistently biblical, gospel-centric counseling, whether in the pastor's study or over coffee with a friend. With the evermore apparent failure of modern psychotherapies and a discomfort with pharmacological strategies, many churches are reaffirming the sufficiency and power of the Scriptures to change lives. To aid churches in ministering to broken and hurting people, the authors of Counsel from the Cross present a counseling model based on Scripture, powered by the work of the Wonderful Counselor, Jesus Christ. Through careful exegesis and helpful case studies, they demonstrate the "why" and the "how" of consistently biblical, gospel-centered counseling. The authors' combined backgrounds-one, a woman trained in biblical counseling and the other, a male professor of practical theology-bring balance to this work, making it relevant for those who counsel as part of pastoral ministry and for those involved in friendship mentoring or discipleship.

William Smith grew up in a cult. He and others suffered sexual, verbal and mental abuse at the hands of the cult members. He dedicates this book to the children who were, and still are, victims of cults. It is especially dedicated those who now travel the same path of abuse and misery that his companions and he did on a daily basis. This book includes many stories of the abuses and cruelty the author endured as a member of the cult he grew up in. The names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the not-so-innocent. It is the author's hope that this book will give comfort to the broken-hearted, offer hope to the hopeless and give strength, courage and faith to you so that you may conquer your own battles of despair, sorry and anxiety. There is hope.

At the stables, Kenzie is in her element. A Broken Cross Book PDF/Epub Download

Who do you declare yourself to be when your identity is fractured and you’re left in your wilderness as you navigate between two altars? The issues of life come upon us in various ways and varying stages, and knowing who we are at those times is vital. The Broken Cross seeks to speak to those issues from a personal and spiritual perspective. Written by a soul that has seen both victories and failures in life, this study offers insight on personal identity and the ways in which God has prepared us mentally and spiritually to survive during our own self-imposed failures and our sense of feeling lost between callings. When we fail to know our identity beyond our name, we face a constant struggle with our life’s assignment. Only when we embrace our God-given identity can we return to destiny’s path. Encompassing both personal narrative and biblical study, this guide explores self-awareness in relation to mental and spiritual conditions and consider the question of our God-given identity.

The Thief the Cross and the Wheel Book PDF/Epub Download

Christ's Crucifixion is one of the most recognized images in Western culture, and it has come to stand as a universal symbol of both suffering and salvation. But often overlooked is the fact that ultimately the Crucifixion is a scene of capital punishment. Mitchell Merback reconstructs the religious, legal, and historical context of the Crucifixion and of other images of public torture. The result is a fascinating account of a time when criminal justice and religion were entirely interrelated and punishment was a visual spectacle devoured by a popular audience. Merback compares the images of Christ's Crucifixion with those of the two thieves who met their fate beside Jesus. In paintings by well-known Northern European masters and provincial painters alike, Merback finds the two thieves subjected to incredible cruelty, cruelty that artists could not depict in their scenes of Christ's Crucifixion because of theological requirements. Through these representations Merback explores the ways audiences in early modern Europe understood images of physical suffering and execution. The frequently shocking works also provide a perspective from which Merback examines the live spectacle of public torture and execution and how audiences were encouraged by the Church and the State to react to the experience. Throughout, Merback traces the intricate and extraordinary connections among religious art, devotional practice, bodily pain, punishment, and judicial spectatorship. Keenly aware of the difficulties involved in discussing images of atrocious violence but determined to make them historically comprehensible, Merback has written an informed and provocative study that reveals the rituals of medieval criminal justice and the visual experiences they engendered.

They’re both plagued with faulty genes—he has bipolar disorder, and she has a ravaging family history of breast cancer. But when their paths cross on the night of Lucy’s twenty-first birthday, sparks fly, and there’s no denying their chemistry. Cautious every step of the way, they are determined to make their relationship work—and they put it all in writing. Mickey promises to take his medication. Lucy promises not to blame him for what is beyond his control. He promises honesty. She promises patience. Like any marriage, they have good days and bad days—and some very bad days. In dealing with their unique challenges, they make the heartbreaking decision not to have children. But when Lucy shows up for a routine physical just shy of their eleventh anniversary, she gets an impossible surprise that changes everything. Everything. Suddenly, all their rules are thrown out the window, and the two of them must redefine what love really is. An unvarnished portrait of a marriage that is both ordinary and extraordinary, Dancing on Broken Glass takes readers on an unforgettable journey of the heart.

Broken Shackles Book PDF/Epub Download

In 1889, Broken Shackles was published in Toronto under the pseudonym of Glenelg. This very unique book, containing the recollections of a resident of Owen Sound, Ontario, an African American known as Old Man Henson, was one of the very few books that documented the journey to Canada from the perspective of a person of African descent. Now, over 112 years later, a new edition of Broken Shackles is available. Henson was a great storyteller and the spark of life shines through as he describes the horrors of slavery and his goal of escaping its tenacious hold. His times as a slave in Maryland, his refuge in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and his ultimate freedom in Canada are vividly depicted through his remembrances. The stories of Henson’s family, friends and enemies will both amuse and shock the readers of Broken Shackles: Old Man Henson From Slavery to Freedom. It is interesting to discover that his observations of life’s struggles and triumphs are as relevant today as they were in his time.

Blessed Broken Given Book PDF/Epub Download

An invitation to find beauty and meaning in the ordinary and imperfect aspects of your life; not as a call to settle for less, but rather as a way to mysteriously participate in God's power and purpose. Glenn Packiam wants to empower readers to find great joy, purpose, and passion in their daily living. While bread may be one of the most common items on our dinner tables, Jesus chose to take it at the Last Supper and invest deep, wonderful, and transcendent meaning in it. Like the bread that was blessed, broken, and given; readers will see how God uses ordinary experiences to cultivate their mission and their brokenness to bring healing to the world. The ordinary is not the enemy; it is the means by which God accomplishes the miraculous. Through clear biblical teaching and practical steps, Packiam leads the reader into a more purposeful, directed, hopeful future.
