The Premonition A Pandemic Story Book PDF/Epub Download

New York Times Bestseller For those who could read between the lines, the censored news out of China was terrifying. But the president insisted there was nothing to worry about. Fortunately, we are still a nation of skeptics. Fortunately, there are those among us who study pandemics and are willing to look unflinchingly at worst-case scenarios. Michael Lewis’s taut and brilliant nonfiction thriller pits a band of medical visionaries against the wall of ignorance that was the official response of the Trump administration to the outbreak of COVID-19. The characters you will meet in these pages are as fascinating as they are unexpected. A thirteen-year-old girl’s science project on transmission of an airborne pathogen develops into a very grown-up model of disease control. A local public-health officer uses her worm’s-eye view to see what the CDC misses, and reveals great truths about American society. A secret team of dissenting doctors, nicknamed the Wolverines, has everything necessary to fight the pandemic: brilliant backgrounds, world-class labs, prior experience with the pandemic scares of bird flu and swine flu…everything, that is, except official permission to implement their work. Michael Lewis is not shy about calling these people heroes for their refusal to follow directives that they know to be based on misinformation and bad science. Even the internet, as crucial as it is to their exchange of ideas, poses a risk to them. They never know for sure who else might be listening in.

THE SUNDAY TIMES AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER 'Superb ... It is tremendous fun, tremendously told' The Times 'A fluid intellectual thriller' Daily Telegraph From the global bestselling author of The Big Short, the gripping story of the maverick scientists who hunted down Covid-19 'It's a foreboding,' she said. 'A knowing that something is looming around the corner. Like how when the seasons change you can smell Fall in the air right before the leaves change and the wind turns cold.' In January 2020, as people started dying from a new virus in Wuhan, China, few really understood the magnitude of what was happening. Except, that is, a small group of scientific misfits who in their different ways had been obsessed all their lives with how viruses spread and replicated - and with why the governments and the institutions that were supposed to look after us, kept making the same mistakes time and again. This group saw what nobody else did. A pandemic was coming. We weren't prepared. The Premonition is the extraordinary story of a group who anticipated, traced and hunted the coronavirus; who understood the need to think differently, to learn from history, to question everything; and to do all of this fast, in order to act, to save lives, communities, society itself. It's a story about the workings of the human mind; about the failures and triumphs of human judgement and imagination. It's the story of how we got to now. 'Lewis is a master of his form' Sunday Times

The Power of Premonitions Book PDF/Epub Download

The doctor – and bestselling author – who first demonstrated the healing effects of prayer now offers an unprecedented look at the science of premonitions. The Power of Premonitions takes readers through documented cases of premonitions, including a remarkable instance when an entire Nebraska community skipped church the very day it exploded; an examination of recent scientific study of 'presentiment'; a discussion of what it all means to daily life; and practical field-tested techniques for inviting premonitions. In this compelling new book Dossey uses cutting-edge science to prove the value of what has long been considered spiritual mumbo-jumbo. This is a book for the sceptical mind, but it's also for the believer's heart – because its author possesses the rare gift of having both.

"Larry Dossey is one of America's most important thinkers. When he talks, I listen."—Marianne Williamson, author of A Return to Love In his New York Times bestseller Healing Words, Dr. Dossey investigated why patients surrounded by prayer healed faster and more completely than patients who were not. Now, in The Science of Premonitions, Dossey uses cutting-edge science to make a convincing case that premonitions are real, common, and helpful. Then Dossey explores research on mindfulness and meditation to show readers how they can cultivate and take advantage of premonitions. Packed with compelling case studies and thought-provoking findings, this is a book for the skeptical mind and the believer's heart, and will be greeted warmly by, as Deepak Chopra said, "anyone who is interested in knowing about the deeper meaning of our existence." Some successful project managers use wrong project tools, while some unsuccessful managers use "state-of-the-art" project tools. In other words, how could project managers execute successful projects using the wrong project tools; and likewise, how could project managers execute unsuccessful projects using the best project tools? This contradicts the project management experts advertising that their tool would revolutionize the project business by making one successful in running a project. Nevertheless, project tools are important. The general thesis is that using just the best project management tools while forgetting everything else about running the project would doom the project to failure. This book contains information about what works and what does not work when managing a project, which can be used to assist anyone in managing a more successful project. This book provides a project management framework illustrating twenty-four project management rules.

Premonitions of the Titanic Disaster Book PDF/Epub Download

Passengers cancelling their tickets for Titanic’s maiden voyage out of apprehension; a famous social reformer who died on Titanic, warned in 1911 that he would be in danger from water in April 1912; inhabitants of the remote islands of Fiji aware of the sinking before reports of the collision reached the Pacific; a dying girl who, on 14 April 1912, ‘sees’ a big ship sinking in the water and mysteriously knows the name of the violinist in Titanic’s orchestra. These are just a few of the numerous claims to psychic foreknowledge of the ship's sinking. Within days of the widely-publicised disaster of 1912, stories began circulating of extraordinary omens and individuals who supposedly had supernatural premonitions of the disaster. Furthermore, four fictional works – one dating as far back as twenty-six years – came to be seen as anticipating the disaster. Between 1960 and 2006, five major commentators published extended analyses of the alleged premonitions, none of which is now easily accessible to an English readership. This book examines them all in detail. The whole treatment of the matter opens up fascinating questions concerning the paranormal, but also raises and leaves unresolved crucial issues specific to premonitions and how they can be legitimately examined. Readers are left to make their own judgement on Titanic premonitions.

An in-depth study into the cutting-edge science of ‘sensing’ the future, or precognition—from a cognitive neuroscientist and the bestselling author of The Dream Dictionary In this groundbreaking book, bestselling author Theresa Cheung joins forces with cognitive neuroscientist Julia Mossbridge, PhD, Director of the Innovation Lab at The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS). Together they reveal revolutionary new research showing that sensing the future is possible; they also provide practical tools and techniques you can use to develop your own powers of precognition. Precognition is the scientific name for the knowledge or perception of the future, obtained through extrasensory means. Often called ‘premonition’, precognition is the most frequently reported of all extrasensory perception (ESP) experiences, occurring most often in dreams. It may also occur spontaneously in waking visions, auditory hallucinations, flashing thoughts entering the mind, the sense of “knowing” and physiological changes. Combining science and practice, Theresa and Dr Julia unravel the mystery of precognition. The book will cover: • What precognition is and the different types, clearly explaining the cutting-edge science, including what is known and what is still a mystery • The most common premonitions that people experience and why, including examples from around the world • Experimental tools to help you cultivate precognition experiences to help get useful information for your life • Case studies included throughout, with supporting scientific evidence offered alongside to provide validation and explanation • Personal experiences of the authors, detailing how premonition has shaped their lives and interviews with leading scientists and experts in the field

Some dreams and premonitions are prophetic. They came true in the life of many eminent world personalities like Julius Caesar, Abraham Lincoln, Adolf Hitler, Mark Twain, H.G.Wells and John Lennon foretelling death, calamities and disasters with pin-point accuracy. Thus, to discount them as being coincidental is not only preposterous, but also defying divinity. The present book turns the spotlight on a wide range of dreams and extra-sensory perceptions covering wars, crimes, discoveries and murders.

This mesmerizing ebook original short story—a prequel to The Sleepwalker—from Chris Bohjalian, bestselling author of The Sandcastle Girls and The Guest Room, tells the tale of one strange summer when a pair of horses die, an odd boy moves to a small Vermont town, and a woman rises from her bed and disappears into the night. Lianna Ahlberg is seventeen when a thunderstorm snaps a power line to the earth, electrifying the ground, the rain spreading the current like wildfire across the wet grass. Two horses are killed in the nearby field, unnerving the neighbors, upsetting the peculiar boy who has just moved in, and filling Lianna with a deep and abiding sense of dread. This is not the first unusual thing to happen that summer—a summer when Lianna’s mother begins to sleepwalk in the smallest hours of morning—and it will not be the last.

My name is Evie Claremont and this was to be the making of me–my freshman year of college. I'd been hoping that once I'd arrived on Crestwood's campus, the nightmare that I've been having would go away. It hasn't. I may be an inexperienced seventeen-year-old, but I'm grounded…sane. I look for rational explanations to even the strangest circumstances. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he's near, I feel an attraction to him–a magnetic kind of force pulling me towards him. I know what you're thinking…that sounds fairly awesome. Yeah, it would be…if he liked me, but Reed acts as if I'm the worst thing that has ever happened to Crestwood…or him. But get this, for some reason every time I turn around he's there, barging into my life. What is the secret that he's keeping from me? I'm hoping that it's anything but what I suspect: that he's not exactly normal…and neither am I. So, maybe Crestwood won't be the making of me, but it could be the breaking of me. I've been left to wonder if the dark future my dream is foretelling is…inescapable.

Cary Mackin is a TV journalist who has covered crime for nearly twenty years. After losing her job she moves to a small town in Connecticut—only to get caught up in the web of a deranged serial killer. Cary has a dark secret that drives everything she does: a deep-seated, lifelong fear that one day she will be murdered. As the madman Cary stumbled upon continues to terrorize the beautiful countryside where she now resides, will her premonition come true? “Premonition…a psycho-thriller roller coaster ride that probes the dark corners of one woman’s seemingly overwhelming paranoia…or is it? From a crime and justice expert, Premonition nails every detail of the criminal mind, the hunter and the hunted. Premonition is full of twists and surprises…I love it! Bravo!” —Nancy Grace, Founder, CrimeOnline.com, Host of CrimeStories on Fox Nation, Sirius XM, and NYT Bestselling Author “My friend and colleague at Court TV, Wendy Whitman, has created a compelling psychological thriller filled with shocking twists that captivate the reader to the very end—and wanting more. Whitman takes daring literary risks with a complex character, Cary Mackin, and her haunting premonition that she will one day be murdered. Driven by her foreboding fear, Mackin deploys extraordinary investigative and forensic skills to track down the man she sees as the killer…before he strikes again—at her! Whitman weaves plot, personality, and prose in a high-octane suspense that will give you paper cuts as you quickly turn the pages. Premonition offers a gripping storyline…and a chilling chase to an ending that you never expected.” —Gregg Jarrett, Network Legal Analyst and Bestselling Author “Whitman’s debut novel is sure to be a great read for true crime fans. If there is anyone best suited to write a book about the reality of evil in this crazy world we live in, it’s Whitman. Her book is unique because although fiction, it so mirrors reality that each page hits home more and more. Having been in the criminal law arena for fifty-five years and having dealt with two notorious serial killer cases, Whitman’s novel captures all aspects of the utter insanity of the criminal mind. In this world of Covid, we all need some respite and a great book is just what the doctor ordered.” —Gerald P. Brava, Wendy!” —Ashleigh Banfield, Court TV Special Contributor and Host of Judgment with Ashleigh Banfield “Wendy Whitman’s debut novel is more than a crime story. Readers will identify with some of her protagonist’s obsessions including food choices (‘borderline vegan’) and her love for animals. Peppered throughout the book are safety tips drawn from actual cases Whitman learned from years covering criminal trials at Court TV where she rose from a producer to a programming executive. TWO MILLION DOLLARS... It’s the kind of score Karyn Ames has always dreamed of—enough to set her crew up pretty well and, more important, enough to keep her safely stocked on a very rare, very expensive black market drug. Without it, Karyn hallucinates slices of the future until they totally overwhelm her, leaving her unable to distinguish the present from the mess of certainties and possibilities yet to come. The client behind the heist is Enoch Sobell, a notorious crime lord with a reputation for being ruthless and exacting—and a purported practitioner of dark magic. Sobell is almost certainly condemned to Hell for a magically extended lifetime full of shady dealings. Once you’re in business with him, there’s no backing out. Karyn and her associates are used to the supernatural and the occult, but their target is more than just the usual family heirloom or cursed necklace. It’s a piece of something larger. Something sinister. Karyn’s crew and even Sobell himself are about to find out just how powerful it is… and how powerful it may yet become.
