"The best book to have been written about the Vietnam War" (The New York Times Book Review); an instant classic straight from the front lines. From its terrifying opening pages to its final eloquent words, Dispatches makes us see, in unforgettable and unflinching detail, the chaos and fervor of the war and the surreal insanity of life in that singular combat zone. Michael Herr’s unsparing, unorthodox retellings of the day-to-day events in Vietnam take on the force of poetry, rendering clarity from one of the most incomprehensible and nightmarish events of our time. Dispatches is among the most blistering and compassionate accounts of war in our literature.

Foreword by Vadge Moore, drummer for the Dwarves From the darkest rat hole basements to flash arenas, here is a wild ride through Rock's worst moments. Rife with confessionals, Gigs from Hell strips the mythology and starry-eyed allure of life on the road to its barest essentials - puke, rip-offs, come-downs and the odd stab at glory. Collected and translated from drunken rock-speak by music writer Sleazegrinder, this book offers a rare glimpse at what it's really like to tour, record and survive in the cut-throat music industry. Illustrated.

Bartlett s Familiar Quotations Book PDF/Epub Download

From ancient Egypt to today, enjoy a sweeping survey of world history through its most memorable words in this completely revised and updated nineteenth edition. More than 150 years after its initial publication, Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations now enters its nineteenth edition. First compiled by John Bartlett, a bookseller in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as a commonplace book of only 258 pages, the original 1855 edition mainly featured selections from the Bible, Shakespeare, and the great English poets. Today, Bartlett’s includes more than 20,000 quotes from roughly 4,000 contributors. Spanning centuries of thought and culture, it remains the finest and most popular compendium of quotations ever assembled. While continuing to draw on timeless classical references, this edition also incorporates more than 3,000 new quotes from more than 700 new sources, including Alison Bechdel, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Pope Francis, Atul Gawande, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Hilary Mantel, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Claudia Rankine, Fred Rogers, Bernie Sanders, Patti Smith, and Malala Yousafzai. Bartlett’s showcases the thoughts not only of renowned figures from the arts, literature, politics, science, sports, and business, but also of otherwise unknown individuals whose thought-provoking ideas have moved, unsettled, or inspired readers and listeners throughout the ages. Bartlett’s makes searching for the perfect quote easy in three ways: alphabetically by author, chronologically by the author’s birth date, or thematically by subject. Whether one is searching for appropriate remarks for a celebration, comforting thoughts for a serious occasion, or simply to answer the question “Who said that?” Bartlett’s offers readers and scholars alike a stunning treasury of words that have influenced

I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell Book PDF/Epub Download

The “highly entertaining and thoroughly reprehensible” #1 New York Times bestseller—now with sixteen pages of photos and a new introduction (The New York Times). My name is Tucker Max, and I am an asshole. I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead. But, I do contribute to humanity in one very important way: I share my adventures with the world. --from the Introduction Actual reader feedback: "I find it truly appalling that there are people in the world like you. You are a disgusting, vile, repulsive, repugnant, foul creature. Because of you, I don’t believe in God anymore. No just God would allow someone like you to exist." "I’ll stay with God as my lord, but you are my savior. I just finished reading your brilliant stories, and I laughed so hard I almost vomited. I want to bring that kind of joy to people. You’re an artist of the highest order and a true humanitarian to boot. I'm in both shock and awe at how much I want to be you."

CLOWN was written in San Jose, California. Native resident Paul Arthur Trainer brilliantly portrayed the imagination for true evil. Shadow the path of detectives Bob Churchill and Eric Morann as they try to stop the ghastly and senseless (or are they) killings performed by a twisted creature so intense you will think twice about firing another employee. Laugh, while a bumbling-rookie police officer, tries his hardest to be the best, alone at night in the woods. Fall in love with reporter Linda Manchester as she innocently becomes a suspected victim. Revolving around the suicide of an innocent man, there's always someone out there to perpetuate justice whether it is legal or illegal. Come along for the ride as horror and humor intersects in this novel and blatant disrespect for the law unravels into the untold truth. Visit the dark bowels of death as one victim after another will lead you to believe there is a reason for revenge; cold, hard, blood-curdling revenge. Who is the killer? And are you sure? It could be someone you least expect. Old Tavern No. Nine, set deep in the Santa Cruz hills, will never be the same and neither will you? Prepare yourself for unrelenting terror, keep the light on, and never answer the door at night. Be afraid of the unknown, and your neighbor.

Redemption Quest Book 2 of Hell s Blade Series Book PDF/Epub Download

Patricia Langstrom, Doctoral Fellow from Monmouth University, studying to be a forensic Anthropologist, and Archeologist, was barely five foot tall. Her long red hair was in a ponytail, and her small frame was fit after years of running, exercising, and making ready to embark on a career of archeological/anthropological digs in far away, exotic locations. When her fiancée died in Afghanistan at the hands of the Taliban, and she finally reined in the emotions of her loss, she found the subject for her final dissertation. Somewhere in the Buriram Province, a 300 meter long “Reclining Buddha” sat waiting to be found. The last text she’d gotten from Neal said he was looking at something there that she would really be interested in. He also began to tell her something else… when the text abruptly ended. She finally had everything in hand, and the team was formed. Just after they arrived at the site, and she found an anomaly inside one of the ancient cloisters used by the monks centuries ago, Taliban attacked and killed everyone...but her. After finding her way into the darkness, and being essentially buried alive, she found what many had been looking for. Dead tired from running, hiding, and with the adrenaline of the moment finally draining from her small body, she laid down to sleep before beginning her investigation of the site, as well as seeing if there was some way to extricate herself from the darkness of the massive chamber. She woke outside, close to a road that had been destroyed in an avalanche. At the other end of the road was an ancient citadel. Skeletons lay everywhere, the main citadel all but destroyed, and the defenders left to rot. She found a book that told most of the story, but her mind wanted more. All she wanted was to return to the cavern, make her investigation, and find her way home… but this possible medieval structure, set, as far as she knew, in Afghanistan, piqued her curiosity. She wasn’t aware that she had been whisked to another world, and another time. Once she was made aware of the facts, she was offered a choice. Return home, make her dissertation, and live without knowing why the citadel was in ruins. Or stay in this world, travel back in time, find the clues to what happened here centuries before...and find a way to stop it. She made her choice...

Science Fiction novel purporting the Earth's magnetosphere is capable of transporting people and objects incompletely through mineral deposits in the Earth's mantle. Complete carnage at several automobile wreckage sites in the same general area prompts an astute law enforcement officer to investigate improbable outcome of the tragedies. Geologists and other scientists are brought in to render an opinion on how sun flares, coronal mass ejections and lightning can hamper, interfere with and even exacerbate electromagnetic spectra on earth, and by utilizing earth's magnetite deposits initiate molecular breakdown and transfer of materiel through and within the earth. Finally in the absence of a proper natural explanation, the investigators turn to the possibility of alien intervention and construction of transporting and DNA modifying technology that is responsible for the continuing tragedies.

Fight Like Hell Book PDF/Epub Download

“Kelly unearths the stories of the people—farm laborers, domestic workers, factory employees—behind some of labor movement’s biggest successes.” —The New York Times A revelatory and inclusive history of the American labor movement, from independent journalist and Teen Vogue labor columnist Kim Kelly. Freed Black women organizing for protection in the Reconstruction-era South. Jewish immigrant garment workers braving deadly conditions for a sliver of independence. Asian American fieldworkers rejecting government-sanctioned indentured servitude across the Pacific. Incarcerated workers advocating for basic human rights and fair wages. The queer Black labor leader who helped orchestrate America’s civil rights movement. These are only some of the working-class heroes who propelled American labor’s relentless push for fairness and equal protection under the law. The names and faces of countless silenced, misrepresented, or forgotten leaders have been erased by time as a privileged few decide which stories get cut from the final copy: those of women, people of color, LGBTQIA people, disabled people, sex workers, prisoners, and the poor. In this definitive and assiduously researched work of journalism, Teen Vogue columnists and independent labor reporter Kim Kelly excavates that untold history and shows how the rights the American worker has today—the forty-hour workweek, workplace-safety standards, restrictions on child labor, protection from harassment and discrimination on the job—were earned with literal blood, sweat, and tears. Fight Like Hell comes at a time of economic reckoning in America. From Amazon’s warehouses to Starbucks cafes, Appalachian coal mines to the sex workers of Portland’s Stripper Strike, interest in organized labor is at a fever pitch not seen since the early 1960s. Inspirational, intersectional, and full of crucial lessons from the past, Fight Like Hell shows what is possible when the working class demands the dignity it has always deserved.
