Patient Assessment in Clinical Pharmacy Book PDF/Epub Download

This comprehensive, first-of-its kind title is an indispensable resource for pharmacists looking to learn or improve crucial patient assessment skills relevant to all pharmacy practice settings. Pharmacists’ role as health care practitioners is evolving as they are taking a more active part in primary patient care -- helping patients manage their medications and diseases, providing patient education, and, in some jurisdictions, prescribing and adapting medications. To perform their day-to-day duties, pharmacists are best-served using a framework called the patient care process. This framework involves three steps: patient assessment; care plan development and implementation; and monitoring and follow up. Organized in four parts, this practical book begins with introductory chapters regarding the basics of patient assessment and the patient care process. Part II includes a detailed assessment of common symptoms encountered by pharmacists. Part III discusses assessment of patients with various chronic illnesses. Part IV addresses select specialized topics and assessment considerations. An invaluable contribution to the literature, Patient Assessment in Clinical Pharmacy: A Comprehensive Guide will be of great benefit to pharmacists, regardless of their practice setting, and to pharmacy students as well.

Gilhooly's texts refer to her own experience of being in and out of mental hospitals in the 1970s after she was diagnosed with Lesbianism. Essays by lesbian and Mad Movement writers describe the progress both communities have made in protecting women from diagnoses of deviance. This book is about refusing to be what others label you, about surviving undiminished, about reclaiming yourself.

Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions Book PDF/Epub Download

Healthcare providers, consumers, researchers and policy makers are inundated with unmanageable amounts of information, including evidence from healthcare research. It has become impossible for all to have the time and resources to find, appraise and interpret this evidence and incorporate it into healthcare decisions. Cochrane Reviews respond to this challenge by identifying, appraising and synthesizing research-based evidence and presenting it in a standardized format, published in The Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com). The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions contains methodological guidance for the preparation and maintenance of Cochrane intervention reviews. Written in a clear and accessible format, it is the essential manual for all those preparing, maintaining and reading Cochrane reviews. Many of the principles and methods described here are appropriate for systematic reviews applied to other types of research and to systematic reviews of interventions undertaken by others. It is hoped therefore that this book will be invaluable to all those who want to understand the role of systematic reviews, critically appraise published reviews or perform reviews themselves.

Mathematical Models of Cancer and Different Therapies Book PDF/Epub Download

This book provides a unified framework for various currently available mathematical models that are used to analyze progression and regression in cancer development, and to predict its dynamics with respect to therapeutic interventions. Accurate and reliable model representations of cancer dynamics are milestones in the field of cancer research. Mathematical modeling approaches are becoming increasingly common in cancer research, as these quantitative approaches can help to validate hypotheses concerning cancer dynamics and thus elucidate the complexly interlaced mechanisms involved. Even though the related conceptual and technical information is growing at an exponential rate, the application of said information and realization of useful healthcare devices are lagging behind. In order to remedy this discrepancy, more interdisciplinary research works and course curricula need to be introduced in academic, industrial, and clinical organizations alike. To that end, this book reformulates most of the existing mathematical models as special cases of a general model, allowing readers to easily get an overall idea of cancer dynamics and its modeling. Moreover, the book will help bridge the gap between biologists and engineers, as it brings together cancer dynamics, the main steps involved in mathematical modeling, and control strategies developed for cancer management. This also allows readers in both medical and engineering fields to compare and contrast all the therapy-based models developed to date using a single source, and to identify unexplored research directions.

Advances in Chitin Chitosan Characterization and Applications Book PDF/Epub Download

Functional advanced biopolymers have received far less attention than renewable biomass (cellulose, rubber, etc.) used for energy production. Among the most advanced biopolymers known is chitosan. The term chitosan refers to a family of polysaccharides obtained by partial de-N-acetylation from chitin, one of the most abundant renewable resources in the biosphere. Chitosan has been firmly established as having unique material properties as well as biological activities. Either in its native form or as a chemical derivative, chitosan is amenable to being processed—typically under mild conditions—into soft materials such as hydrogels, colloidal nanoparticles, or nanofibers. Given its multiple biological properties, including biodegradability, antimicrobial effects, gene transfectability, and metal adsorption—to name but a few—chitosan is regarded as a widely versatile building block in various sectors (e.g., agriculture, food, cosmetics, pharmacy) and for various applications (medical devices, metal adsorption, catalysis, etc.). This Special Issue presents an updated account addressing some of the major applications, including also chemical and enzymatic modifications of oligos and polymers. A better understanding of the properties that underpin the use of chitin and chitosan in different fields is key for boosting their more extensive industrial utilization, as well as to aid regulatory agencies in establishing specifications, guidelines, and standards for the different types of products and applications.

Health Promotion in the Workplace 4th Edition Book PDF/Epub Download

Health Promotion in the Workplace is a valued reference for anyone who designs, manages, evaluates or studies workplace health promotion programs. Authored by a team of program managers and scholars who have designed and managed programs in several thousand settings, conducted hundreds of program evaluations, and published thousands of scientific studies on the most effective approaches, this 722 page book provides the rare combination of practical perspective combined with conservative scientific rigor. This 4th edition is completely revised from the 3rd edition, which was published in 2002, and builds on the principles first articulated in 1984, in the 1st edition. The earlier editions have been used by tens of thousands of professionals around the world. The overall book is organized around the Awareness, Motivation, Skills and Opportunity (AMSO) Framework, which was first articulated by Dr. Michael P. O'Donnell in 2005. The AMSO Framework has been adopted by hundreds of employers, and integrated into federal legislation that guides federal spending in this area. This book is written with three audiences in mind. The largest audience is the rapidly growing network of professionals who have embraced health promotion as a career. Our hope for them is to provide the insights and tools they need to be as effective as possible in their work, and in turn improve the health and quality of life for millions of people every day. Another key group is human resource professionals who have not chosen health promotion as a career, but have been tasked with implementing programs in their own organizations. Our hope for them is to provide a tangible sense of how programs should work, so they know how to hire the best people to help them and how to monitor and oversee the successful rollout, evaluation, and evolution of a program. The most important audience may be students, most of whom are young people with open minds and passion, people who are still formulating career plans. Our hope is that this book opens their minds to a career path through which they can help individuals experience an enhanced health and sense of wellbeing, transform workplaces into communities that care for their workers while they improve productivity and moderate medical cost increases, all of which will help organizations remain financially sustainable and commercially successful. This text is appropriate for students in undergraduate and graduate level programs. The 23 chapters of the book are organized into six major sections. The three chapters devoted to The Health Promotion Concept, include the health perspective, the business case and the AMSO Framework. The four chapters in on Management cover how to design, manage, evaluate, and market a program. The five chapters on Core Theories describe the behavior change theories most important for health promotion: goal setting, Transtheoretical Model, incentives, self efficacy, and tailoring. The eight chapters on Building Skills address health assessment, fitness, nutrition, stress management, weight control, tobacco control, decision support and EAP. The two chapters on Enhancing Opportunities discuss the impact of social relationships on organization culture. The final chapter is on special challenges in small business settings, the untapped frontier for workplace health promotion.
