Sayings like.candy will rot your teeth. you can't have candy for breakfast.you won't grow if you eat junk food.flew into my head. A little stick figure named Ronald came to mind and that is how Ronald the picky eater was born! Now Ronald is used as a tool to promote healthy nutrition and good eating habits with children. Ronald is used in schools and other organizations to try and teach children the importance of eating healthy at a young age ---and beyond. It's never too soon to start teaching children that eating good food can be fun! This is my first children's book. I am a stay at home mom with a husband and three small BUSY children! I enjoy gardening, doing craft projects with my daughter, cooking and trying to get my family to eat healthy! I have a B.S. in Advertising and may further my education with a degree in nutrition. Further, it addresses methodological questions relevant to the development of measures and gaining an understanding of youth quality of life in this region. Drawing on the data collected, it subsequently explores students’ primary goals and their satisfaction with the extent of having achieved those goals. DETAIL BOOKS

Book Description :

Our children are experiencing a serious health crisis. If we do not get educated about it and facilitate change it is estimated that our children will not even live to the current lifespan of adults today. In fact, cancer, diabetes, asthma, obesity, ADHD and degenerative diseases are more prevalent than ever. One in four children is obese and nearly 50% of children who remain obese as adolescents continue the trend as adults (Int'l Journal of Obesity 1999 & Pediatrics, 1998). By age 3, children have fatty deposits in their arteries and by age twelve, 70% have developed beginning stages of hardening of the arteries (Bogalusa Heart Study NHLBI, 2002). More than 8 million children have asthma. This statistic has increased 232% over the last 40 years (Archives of Pediatric/Adolescent Medicine, 2000) and 25% of all 12 year olds have higher than normal blood pressure (Berenson, 2004) Did you know that less than 7% of all school age kids get the recommended 2 servings of fruits and 3 servings of vegetables per day? (Archives of Pediatric/ Adolescent medicine, 1996). If ketchup and French fries were not considered the figure would be even less.

DETAIL BOOKS

Book Description :

The health and welfare of children became an area of concern and action in the early decades of the twentieth century. This concern would develop an ever-broader remit during the course of the century, moving from anxiety about high death rates, physical health and the 'unfit', to embrace all children and the mental health and the psychological well-being of individuals. This volume emerged out of an Anglo-Dutch Workshop held at the University of Warwick in July 1999, and is the first book to explore child health in the twentieth century in a comparative perspective, focussing on such issues as the link between child health and citizenship, the impact of ideas concerning degeneracy, socialisation, consumerism and children's rights, and the role of the family, state and experts in mediating child health.

DETAIL BOOKS

Book Description :

The Children of Atlantis is a collection of statements by a hundred young people who have fled various parts of the former Yugoslavia in the face of war and destruction, nationalism, hatred and ethnic cleansing, the pressure to take sides, and the draft. As refugees, they are seeking to continue or complete their education at universities around the world, all the while confronting the task of making something of their lives amid the catastrophe that has overwhelmed them, their families, and their homeland. Gathered here are extracts from essays written by the students describing the circumstances that drove them to leave their homes, and the different ways (both optimistic and bleak) they envision their futures. It offers a snapshot of virtually a whole generation of young people on the threshold of their working lives, uprooted from the world they grew up in. Their voices are varied, expressing pain, anger, uncertainty, hope, and the positive energy of youth. What they have in common is a sense of disbelief and bewilderment at the forces unleashed in what was their country. In a way this is a war-report, though not prepared by foreign war-reporters or covered from the frontlines. Rather, it is a diverse chronicle revealing the unseen psychological aspects of war, written by the victims from the depths of their souls.

Factors Impacting Youth Development in Haiti

  • Release : 2007

  • Language : En, Es, Fr & De
DETAIL BOOKS

Book Description :

Of the 1.6 million Haitian youth aged 15-24, only 13 percent are content with their lives. More than half of 20-year-olds have not completed secondary education and nearly half of youth in the labor market are unemployed. This paper investigates protective and risk factors predisposing youth to positive and negative behaviors. These factors, including poverty, gender, education, labor market, migration, family, health, and violence, are examined by using statistics and probability models based on Haiti's first household living conditions survey. Key findings show that female youth need special attention because they are more likely than their male peers to drop out of school and to be unemployed or inactive. Role models, guidance, expectations, and contacts in the form of parents or household heads are decisive factors in keeping youth in school, and to some extent, in their finding employment. In addition, domestic migration has a negative impact on the probability of being unemployed or inactive (positive self-selection), while marriage, drug abuse, and domestic violence increase the probability of dropping out of school.
